Every moment we spend with our children is special. As moms, we cherish all their milestones such as learning to walk, loosing a tooth, the first day of school, and kicking the winning goal. Special family bonds are also formed when we travel with our kids or on a fun family game night. It seems like there are lots of opportunities in life to bond with our children, but special moments can also be created everyday. As parents, we are super busy establishing the perfect work/life balance. As moms, we always have a laundry list of things to do. If we just pause for a few minutes, then we won’t miss out on opportunities to create special family bonds everyday.
Here are some great opportunities to bond with your children:
-In the morning while they watching TV
I like to take a few minutes to sit down next to my boys, give them a big kiss, and ask them how did they sleep or if they had any dreams. You could also ask them to tell you about their new favorite show and all its characters.
This is a great time to find out details from your child’s day. My kids love to tell all kinds of silly stories while we eat and with out the distractions of technology their imaginations tend to run wild!
-In the car
While driving all over town, I often have my kids read to me from their favorite book. My boys also love singing along to the radio, and hearing their little voices sing is a moment I will never forget. I love that they know all the words!
Usually my kids need to run around outside and release all their energy after school. The boys often ride their scooters along side of me as we walk the dog together. I love watching them play and create silly games.
-When you get home from work
My boys are always excited to see dad when he gets home from work. They come running with smiles on their faces eager to show him what they have been doing while he was away. This is a great time to take a minute and check out your child’s latest creation whether it’s a Lego car they built, a picture they colored, or essay they had to write for school.
-During homework time
Helping my son do homework brings back memories of when I was in school. I like to share stories with him about books I read, teachers I had, and math tricks I discovered. He is usually very interested especially because my stories stall him from getting his own homework done.
Every night I read to my boys and I have been doing it since they were old enough to sit in my lap and listen. It’s a special time for me as they lean their heads on my shoulder and listen to what I am reading. Cuddling up close is special moment to cherish because one day they will be to “old” to snuggle up with mom.
-After the lights are out
This is my favorite time to create special moments with my children. They both get special one on one time with me before they have to go to bed. After a busy day, I know that I will always have this time to spend with my child listening to their stories and answering their questions. And the cherry on top is a kiss goodnight with those special words “I love you mom”.
While we all look forward to special events and creating memories, sometimes we need to just stop and realize that every minute spent with out children is precious. As parents, we need to cherish this time because before we know it they will be grown. When is your favorite time to bond with your child?
