It has been quiet on the blog, and I haven’t posted anything for a week. Not because I don’t have any posts written (because I do), and not because I don’t have the time (because I do). The reason you haven’t had anything to read is because I want to make some changes to my blog.
I started this blog as a creative outlet. As something for me to do, while the kids were at school.
Over the past 5 months, I have published 60 posts. I have tweaked my profile, edited my about page and tried lots of new techniques. But this blog, just isn’t me.
I think I read to many blog posts, on how to write a blog or how to grow a blog. I felt like I needed to write certain articles in order to gain followers. As a new blogger, this made sense. How was anyone going to find my blog, if I didn’t show up on Google or Pinterest.
As a mom, I had plenty of good topics to write about. I felt the need to create posts that answered a question. I was always attempting to solve a problem. But what if I don’t like writing this way?
Sure, there are a few blog posts I have written that I am proud of, but for the most part my work needs some help. Through trial and error, I have discover many things that I don’t like to blog about.
I posted some recipes, but I didn’t like it. I’m not a food blogger.
I posted some crafts, but I didn’t like it. I’m not a DIYer.
I posted some fashion finds, but I didn’t like it. I’m not a fashion blogger.
I posted some travel tips, but I didn’t like it. I’m not a travel blogger.
So what kind of blogger am I?
I’ve taken some time to think about this question, and I’m pretty sure I found my answer!
I think I’m a personal blogger. Maybe this is what everyone calls a lifestyle blog? (I couldn’t find a technical definition!)
I want to write about my “mom life.” I want to tell you real life stories and share about my day to day events. I want to write them in a way that other moms can relate too. I want you to feel like you are listening to a good friend.
Personal blogs are the ones I like to read on a regular basis, and the type of blog I think I can be apart of. I don’t read niche specific blogs everyday. Sure if I need a good chicken recipe or if I am planning a party, then I’m all over Pinterest looking for an awesome post. If I need some style inspiration, then I’m scrolling through my Instagram til something catches my eye.
So I started thinking, if I don’t read these kind of blogs everyday, then how can I write one. It would be fake and phony, and I just couldn’t do it.
I need to write posts that I find interesting. I can’t pretend to blog about stuff that I don’t truly love because I think that’s what others want to read.
I’m a little bit scared to not have a blog niche. I’m scared I won’t fit into a blogging category.
But without risk, there is no reward right?
I hope I can find more followers and that people will actually be interested in what I have to say. I hope other moms will be able to relate to my life and stories. And if not, then it may be time to move on to my next big adventure.
So I will continue to gather my thoughts, and begin to write some new personal posts in the coming weeks.
Stay tuned for my “new” blog.
