I don’t really keep a regular journal. I know lots of people do, but as a busy mom journaling is not part of my monthly self care routine. I’m more of a list person. I have notebooks, and phone notes full of lists. They will often cover things from daily tasks & what I need to buy for dinner, to books I want to read or places I want to visit. None of these lists bring me joy!
Lists make me nervous! I often feel overwhelmed and incomplete when I see all the things on my lists. I get flustered if I don’t accomplish everything, and I get upset thinking about all the things on my “someday list” that will probably never come to light.
One day after listening to Gretchen Rubin’s podcast Happier (episode 151), I decided that I needed to make a list of things that made me happy!
I needed a mom’s love list!
I immediately grabbed a sheet of paper and wrote down all of my favorite things. My list included cold brew coffee, tennis clinics, peonies, and Zella leggings!
All the things on my list make me smile when I see them or think about them!
As a mom, I have a lot to be thankful for, and my family makes me very happy! My love list would be very long if I included my favorite things about being a mother such as singing bedtime songs, kissing booboos, and watching my boys play at the beach. This is a list that I carry with me in my heart always, not a list that I need on paper.
Why You Need a Love List
I wanted a list that was specific to me as an individual. I wanted a list that reminded me that I am a person not just a mom.
