As a busy mom, I have a lot of STUFF in my purse! Inside my bag, I keep the usual wallet, phone and beauty essentials, not too mention snacks and all the kids junk! My purse is so full, I can did and dig and never reach the bottom! Recently, I decided if I didn’t eliminate half the items in my bag, then I was going to end up with severe back problems from carrying all this STUFF around! Obviously, some items (aka keys) are essential to always have in your purse, but others (aka eye shadow) are not, at least for me. In an effort to remove half the beauty products in my bag, I narrowed it down to 7 Multi-Purpose items I felt were important to always have in my purse. Carrying only these 7 beauty essentials has opened up a lot of space and made my bag a lot lighter. My back and shoulders are thanking me!
7 Multi-Purpose Beauty Essentials Every Mom Should Have in Her Purse
Deodorant is a must in every mom’s purse. Chasing after the kids can really work up a sweat, and you don’t want to be caught smelling like you haven’t showered! It’s also great to carry around in case you have one of those busy, rushing to get out of the house mornings and totally forget all about deodorant! Not that this has happened to me! Wink, wink! (FYI, I adopted 5 great habits to add to your morning routine that make the rest of the day a little easier.) I love to keep this Citrus Verbena stick from L’Occitane in my bag because it smells really fresh, but also has a light perfume scent. Now my deodorant has a multipurpose. One to keep me dry, but two to make me smell wonderful! If I have trouble remembering deodorant on a busy morning, there is no way I can remember perfume! I just swipe some on before I run into a meeting, or before one of the boy’s playdates. Deodorant is a must in every mom’s bag!
Keeping a tube of moisture inside your purse is another essential beauty item. In colder weather, I am always adding lotion to my dry hands, but in the Summer I am always applying it to my feet. It seems like every time I get in the car wearing sandals or flip flops, I notice how dry my heels are! Since I always have moisturizer in my bag, I just rub my feet down before getting out of the car. Also, cream can serve a dual purpose to help tame your frizzy hair. Just gently swipe your moist hands on top of your hair and the fly aways will stick down. Now you don’t need to carry around any extra hair products!
I do recommend that every mom always have a hair tie in her bag. You never know when you might need to pull your hair out of your face such as after a sweaty afternoon on the playground. Plus, on that busy morning rushing around you may think your hair style looks great, but later realize you made that decision prior to drinking enough coffee! Mom Ponytail to the rescue! Hair ties can also serve as great clothing malfunction tools. They can be used to hold a folded shirt sleeve in place or if you can’t quite button your favorite jeans after a big meal! Since they are as versatile as a rubber band, I love keeping a few hair ties in my bag just in case.
Lipstick is a great multipurpose beauty item. Most people don’t realize that it can also be used on other areas besides the lips. In a pinch, rub a little onto your cheek bones for some added color or even along your eyelids. Normally I use eyeshadow and blush at home, but you never know when you might need a quick car makeover! In general, I am not a fan of using lipstick, I prefer to use a gloss for some quick shine, so I like to keep TrèStiQue Lip Crayon in my purse because it is two sided, one matte and one shiny! Check out my busy mom’s simple make up routine.
I always keep a mini tube of Vaseline in my bag. The kids and I both use it on our chapped lips, but I also use vaseline a few more ways. I like to rub a small amount onto my cuticles when I notice they are dry. I don’t know why I am always noticing dry skin in the car. Maybe it’s the lighting? Or maybe it’s because I spend so much time waiting in the school car line! Vaseline helps to protect the skin, so it is great to have on hand when one of the kids gets a scrape, rash, or picks a mosiquito bite! A little goes a long way so I find that the small size tube is plenty.
A good pair of tweezers is an essential beauty item for moms. I always keep a pair in my purse! I think the best time to pluck your brows is while sitting in the car. The car visor mirror is great for seeing all those stray hairs! Tweezers are also necessary when one of the kids gets a splinter. Once, I even had to use a pair of tweezers to remove a raisin from my son’s nose! (I don’t recommend this with out the supervision of a medical professional, but since I am a nurse in this situation it felt it was ok.) You can also use a pair of tweezers to easily remove lint and pet hair from your clothes. This is another thing I always notice in the car!
No mom should ever leave the house without a package of wet wipes in her purse! They are the most useful product especially if you have kids. You may need wipes in the bathroom or for sticky hands. I also use wipes to clean up spills in the car. I have used them on clothing stains and to remove dirt from my white shoes. Wipes work well as tissues when someone has a cold or as napkins when the kids are eating a snack. Wipes are very versatile and as a busy mom, I use them every day!
I love having all 7 of these multi-purpose beauty items in my purse. Having them on hand makes my life a little as a mom just a little easier. And only using products that serve a dual purpose keeps my bag light and easy to carry!
