As a busy mom I use my phone, its camera, and my Apps all the time. Here is a list of my top 12 apps that every mom should have on her phone. And the best part is they are all free!
1) Google Calendar
I love the Google Calendar app. It took along time for me to throw away my handwritten planner, but this app helped me enter modern times. I love how easy it is to schedule appointments and color code my individual events. I can access my calendar from my phone and from my computer. Plus, I can share it with my family and friends. Google Calendar will send reminder notifications and emails for all my events, so I can’t forget anything. My favorite feature of Google Calendar is that it syncs with my Iphone calendar, so that when I tell Siri to make appointments, they automatically show up on my Google Calendar as well. This app is great for keeping moms organized and on time!
2) Microsoft OneNote
I use OneNote whenever I need to make a list. This app allows me to make multi-colored notes and each note can have multiple pages. I like to keep a running grocery list, a daily to do list, and I also have one note for each child. Some page examples include sports schedules, class schedules, and homework assignment lists. I also have a page for myself where I like to copy links for recipes I have found on the internet. Vacation planning is also a lot easier! Another great feature of OneNote is that I can create more than one notebook, so I can keep my blog stuff separate from my personal life.
Overdrive is a free app where you can access both adult and children’s ebooks and audiobooks from your local library. My family uses the library all the time and this apps gives us on the go access. I like to listen to audiobooks in the car while I’m on my way to pick the kids up from school, and with this app you can listen to as many books as you want for free! I don’t read books on my phone, but if you do then this app allows for reading as well.
This app is so popular it doesn’t need an explanation! I put this on my must have apps list because I use it all the time. If I’m waiting for an appointment I use Pinterest to pass the time. It is my magazine replacement. I also use Pinterest when planning parties or events for the school.
Artkive is an app created to help moms save and organize their children’s art work. When my boys were younger they came home from school with multiple art projects a day. This app helped me keep it all straight. You simply take a photo of the artwork and store it in a file you have created on the app. Then, you can have a hardcover book printed with all the pictures of your child’s artwork. I love Artkive because I can keep my children’s art forever without hanging onto a big mess of papers.
Every mom needs a little magic in her pocket and Youtube kids is mine. This is an app you will use when your child needs to be entertained and there is nothing else available but your phone. We have all experienced these situations! YouTube kids is great because it filters the videos available for viewing on your phone. Recommended videos are displayed or you can search for specific choices based on your child’s age. Even older kids will be happy to watch videos while you are out and about.
As a busy mom, I use the Pandora app to play music while I am cleaning the house or making dinner. Chores are more fun with music to sing and dance too! My kids like to play music while they are playing outside or swimming in the pool.
I have just recently discovered the Trekaroo app, but I wish I had know about it sooner. In this app you can search for nearby family fun ideas! The app can access your current location and gives you a detailed list of fun places to visit. I also like to use this app when planning a vacation with my kids. Trekaroo also lists a recommended age and price next to each activity. I find the parent reviews very helpful when trying to make a decision.
This is another app that doesn’t need any explaining. I recommend that every busy mom download the Amazon app so that it is super easy to order items as soon as you think of it. Don’t make a to do list of items to purchase just put them in your Amazon cart and check out! Now you won’t waste time running around looking for a last minute birthday gift or new dog leash. And if you have a prime account you will receive your items in two business days!
MamaBear is an app moms need to use for family communication and for protecting your children’s safety online. I have not personally used this app yet, but as soon as my kids have their own phones I know I will use it everyday. Some key features include setting up location alerts for your child and monitoring your child’s texts and social media accounts. You can also program the app to let you know when your child is speeding!
11) Storm Shield
As a mom to two boys who play sports, it is important for me to always know the weather. If it is raining the boys won’t have practice and checking the Storm Shield App lets me know whether or not to head out to the field. Also, since I live in Florida we get bad storms that develop quickly. This app sends me alerts to notify me of any severe weather in my area. The app also locates my current position so it will work while I’m on vacation too.
I love using the Starbucks app to pre-order my coffee so that when I have to drag my kids into the store with me we are in and out quickly. If you create an account at Starbucks, you can preorder and pay through the app, so that your coffee is waiting for you instead of the other way around. If you are a busy mom and you love Starbucks you need to take advantage of this app!
Please leave a comment and let me know your favorite App.
